vacation planning tips

If a restaurant interests you on DestinationNewport.com, try to visit their web site if they have one. Many times they offer unadvertised specials on 1 or 2 nights a week, especially midweek.

Newport Area Beaches

Public Beaches

Newport is known for its many beautiful and unspoiled fine sand beaches and surrounding nature areas. Three of the area's beaches lie in a row, separated by peninsulas of land and rock that jut out into the sea. As a result, many local people refer to the beaches as 1st, 2nd and 3rd. They are noted below to help you get to the right beach when you're here!

Newport Public Beaches

Easton's Beach (1st Beach)
Newport's largest beach and recreation area. Only area beach that has a carousel, aquarium, rentable beach houses and food concession area. Great for kids and families. At the end of the beach, a popular outdoor restaurant and patio bar (Atlantic Beach Club)offers guests drinks, food and live music on weekend afternoons. Fees range from $5 to $10 to park and season passes are $45 for nonresidents.

Bailey's Beach
This is a very small beach located at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and Ocean Drive. Accessible only by foot or bike, it is a great place to stop on a bike ride and relax and watch the surf. The larger area of the beach past the rocks is private and part of the Spouting Rock Beach Association. Free.

Located just beyond Bailey's Beach on Ocean Drive, Gooseberry is a great family beach because it lies in a protected area away from high surf. Fees are $10 for parking or $125 for season pass.

Middletown Public Beaches

This is the largest beach in the area and boasts the greatest surf, fine sand, concession area with food, bathrooms and showers. Popular with both families and singles, this beach abuts the Norman Bird Sanctuary and Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. Fees range from $10 to $15 to park and season passes are $90 for nonresidents.

Navy Beach (3rd Beach)
Situated on the other side of Sachuest Point lies Third Beach, a favorite of windsurfers and families. Set in a cove, expect to find low surf at this beach with just the right wind offshore for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Fees range from $10 to $15 to park and season passes are $90 for nonresidents.
